Winter hikes, text deals
Lyons Falls trail at Mohican State Park.
Don't spend all of your time indoors unless there is inclement weather and you are urged to stay in. This weekend (especially Saturday) should provide warmer temperatures and it's a great time to get out and get some exercise and socialize. Commit to Be Fit and Columbus Metro Parks have a Winter Hike Series and this weekend will be at Blendon Woods. The group hike starts at 10 a.m. and participants can choose to do 2, 4, or 6 miles. Can't go tomorrow? There's one at one of my favorites, Highbanks Metro Park, next Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. where you can do 2.5 or 5 miles. They usually have snacks, soup or hot cocoa and cofee set up at the end for particpants.
Want to get out of town? Mohican State Park has nice hiking trails and you can even take your dog. It's about an hour north of Columbus. Be mindful that it is a moderate trail and you should have good hiking or winter boots to wear. The scenery is beautiful and you'll burn off a few of those cookies you had during the holidays. There's a Mexican restaurant called El Campesino off I-71 with fast service, good prices and good food. I've gone there twice now when going hiking at Mohican and both items I tried were good and delivered quickly.
If you like to ski, Snow Trails near Mohican has a deal where you can get lift and rental for an adult for $35 Monday through Thursday evenings. They will also have specials on Sunday for Family Day, but you have to pre-register no later than 2/1. For details, check out http://www.snowtrails.com/
Consider signing up for text alerts to your favorite stores. You often get an introductory deal and special offers later on. I get text alerts from Meijer, AMC Theatres, Victoria's Secret, Earth Fare, Culver's and more. **Be sure you have a mobile data plan that allows unlimited texts or you will get socked with fees.
