Four Strings Brewing Co. recently opened a tap room at 985 W. 6th Avenue near Grandview. Check out their $3 pints during Happy Hour.
The name for Four Strings comes from the fact that Dan Cochran plays the bass guitar. Even the taps at Four String have guitar handles, except for one with brass knuckles. Craft beer seems to be very popular right now and especially in the Grandview Heights area. Zauber Brewing Co. recently opened a taproom at the former Reed Arts space on Fifth Avenue and Miller's Ale House is open on Olentangy River Road.
Four String is hidden off the main road behind the plaza with Five Guys and Papa John's on Fifth Avenue. To get to Four Strings, I suggest you turn on Gerrard Avenue and then turn into the lot off of it or 6th Avenue. There's not a ton of parking and there are only about 6 tables inside and about 8 more seats at the bar. I went to meet someone at the tap room on a Friday night for Happy Hour, which is from 4-7 p.m. and features $3 pints. It's dark inside with lots of music-themed artwork and a large, flat-screen TV. They show movies on Thursdays for people who like to want to get a beer and be entertained. Regular prices for pints are $5; a flight of 3 beers is $4.50; a flight of 4 beers is $6; 32 oz. growler is $6.50 and a 64 oz. growler is $12.50. The only food they currently offer is OH! Food truck hand made kettle chips or sweet potato chips for $2. Prices are VERY reasonable and the Big Star White IPA I tried had a good flavor and wasn't overpowering. The beer brewing equipment is all located to the back of the tap room as is the restroom. It's got a very cool, low-key vibe to it so it's nice to sit and talk and have a beer without being overwhelmed by tons of noise or lights. I like the sparseness of the place and the overall decor-and, I find the brass knuckle tap pretty funny.
I suggest you get there early to get a table. During my visit, I got the last one for us and when I went back to fetch my hat the next day, the place was packed. If you want to have a good locally-made craft beer in a hip, unpretentious setting, then try Four Strings. The price of pints during happy hour is well worth a visit to try one of the Four Strings Brewery selections. Tap room hours are Thursday and Friday from 4 to 11 p.m. and Saturday noon to 11 p.m.
