Ohio State University CARS EcoCar project for 2012

The 2011 EcoCar was fueling up at the electric car chargers at the CAR facility off Kinnerar Road recently.

The vehicle is a project for CAR (Center for Automotive Research) students and part of a three-year student competition, "EcoCAR 2 Plugging in to the Future," sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Fifteen university teams are participating in the competition.

Even President Obama stopped by to check out the vehicle and program during his visit!

The car used in the program this year is a Chevy Malibu. The technical goals for the teams are to reduce fuel consumption, gas emissions, tailpipe emissions while maintaining performance, safety and utility acceptability for consumers.

The vehicles are donated by GM and a large number of other companies help sponsor the competition.
