Clippers open homestand against Pawtucket tonight
The Clippers host Pawtucket at 7:05 tonight in the opener of an eight-game homestand in Huntington Park.
Columbus just completed a 5-5 swing through Toledo, Gwinnett and Charlotte and bused home last night as the third-place team in the International League West Division behind Indianapolis and Louisville, respectively. The Clippers had heldsecond place from April 24 until yesterday's 6-3 loss at Charlotte dropped them a game behind the Bats.
Toru Murata is up from double-A Akron to start against Pawtucket's Rubby De La Rosa. Murata has had a couple of short stays with the Clippers this season. In four starts, he is 0-2 with a 6.10 earned run average. IL hitters have raked him for a .337 batting average. He is 3-3 at Akron with a 3.44 ERA in nine games. The team also placed veteran relief pitcher J.C. Romero on the seven-day disabled list.
The two moves were the 124th and125th of the season for Columbus in70 games. The franchise record for moves in a season is 188, set in 2008. The Clippers are on a pace for 257transactions this season.
The Red Sox lead the IL East by 4 1/2 games over Lehigh Valley. De La Rosa (0-1) has allowed four earned runs in eight starts over 31 2/3 innings.
