It's tough to earn scholarship money in a non-revenue sport such as men's track and field, but the hard work done by Westerville North senior Joey Wilkin has paid off.
After making it to state a year ago in the 110-meter hurdles, Wilkin signed a letter of appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy on Wednesday.
Wilkin won the OCC-Cardinal Division title in the event last season and was one of six juniors to compete in the event at state.
According to Wilkin's father, North assistant coach Jon Wilkin, Joey finished 13th in the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals in Wichita, Kan., last summer, and also was 16th in the 400 hurdles.
