Six Hartley athletes to play collegiately
Hartley High School had six athletes sign letters of intent Nov. 14 to compete in college sports.
In girls volleyball, Brooke Betts signed with Louisville and teammates Madison Brake and Molly Shonk signed with Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and Georgia State, respectively.
Also signing with Louisville was senior swimmer Andrea Cottrell.
Softball player Anna Kirk signed with Ohio State and girls tennis player Rachael Morales signed with Marshall.
Betts was lost for the season with an injury Sept. 11, but she was one of three players to earn district Player of the Year honors last season.
The Hawks, who were Division II state champions a year ago, were district runners-up this fall with Brake and Shonk among their key players.
Cottrell won the Division II state championship in the 100-yard breaststroke (1 minute, 3.32 seconds) and was third in the 200 individual medley (2:04.57) last season. She was second in both the 200 IM and the 100 breast in 2010-11.
Kirk was the district’s Player of the Year and made first-team all-CCL last season after hitting .609 with nine home runs, 34 RBI and 35 stolen bases.
Morales is a four-time state qualifier who won the Division II state singles championship Oct. 20. She went 25-1 this season and 118-10 for her prep career.
