Anecdote from The Beat's interview with Allen Bailey, founder of the Harlem Gospel Choir, that didn't make our print story.

Bailey was sharing first how the years have flown by and marveling at the experiences he's had with the choir, including performing for Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II. One such experience was the choir's invitation to sing at Elton John's private 60th birthday party.

"He told us he had our songs on his iPod. I had to ask 'Elton John listens to the Harlem Gospel Choir!?'"
