Kevin Glavin owns a bar in Pittsburgh, smokes the occasional cigar and likes to play golf. Oh, and he's a professional opera singer who's worked around the world. "It's something I always wanted to do," he told The Beat of getting into the bar business about three years ago. "It's definitely different than opera." When told he might not be upholding the stereotype of an opera singer, he laughed. "I was never into that whole deal. I known a lot of divas and divos, though. Funny thing is, a lot of the more famous ones don't pull that kind of stuff." "It's a tough business, and you have to keep your head. You're always getting accolades or getting panned by somebody. I try to keep it real. Owning a bar keeps it real."

Side note on Kevin Glavin - who appears in Opera Columbus' production of Cinderella this weekend, and who spoke to The Beat for this story last week: He and The Beat are graduates of the same high school in suburban Pittsburgh.
