Our story from the interview with Paul Stancato, resident director of the touring production of The Lion King, focused on the production. But our conversation did not.
One of Stancato's first forays into professional theater was doing Blue Man Group Off-Broadway. We noted that his photograph on his Web site showed him with a beautiful head of hair. He let us in on a little secret that apparently was not well-known to others seeking the role.
"Blue Men have no ears," he told The Beat. "So no matter what you've got on your head, you wear a bald cap."
"I can't tell you how many guys showed up at that audition with shaved heads, apparently thinking it would help them."
Stancato, who before turning to acting had played drums in a handful of rock n' roll bands, figures his drumming background helped him land the BMG part.
