For example, Adam Duritz, who has been writing not for the Counting Crows but for a stage musical in development called Black Sun, has been attending the project performances and other such stage musical stuff that happens before a show hits a bigger stage. Asked if he'd like to see the show make it to Broadway, his reply was what you might expect and yet still lengthy, as was his wont on that day.
"I'd love to say it'll be there for sure, but I think that would be disrespectful to the process because I think there's a reason these things take time, because they're just really hard to do. We put out about half a play and we really loved it and the audience went kind of crazy, but it's a long way from being done. Would I love to see it on Broadway? Sure. I mean, I'd love to see it. I want to go to the moon, too."
What he's saying is there is still work to be done, but he'd hope someday Black Sun might be on Broadway.
We asked Menzel what her plans were following her current tour.
"Mostly just take time and be a mommy and a wife (she and actor Taye Diggs have a young son). But I'll also be working on readings and workshops, and maybe some film and TV."
So she'll be busy, and you notice she tried to hide it in there, but she mentioned specifically working on workshops.
So, since we know Duritz' piece isn't finished, and we know that Menzel plans on doing readings and workshops, The Beat has come to this otherwise groundless conclusion that we will someday see Black Sun on Broadway starring Idina Menzel.
