The Beat likened young bluesy-rock singer ZZ Ward, who hails from the Pacific Northwest and maks her home in Los Angeles, to an American Adele in our print piece previewing her concert tonight at The Basement.
Check out this video for her tune Put the Gun Down and you'll hear why the vocal comparison is apt. But Ward gives a greasier, more blues-inflected performance - thus our "American" addendum.
The young performer is happily immersing herself in the process of being a pro musician - and finds herself enjoying both touring and recording, although she battles the frustration of not being able to do it all at once.
"I love performing, connecting with people and meeting fans, but it's getting further away from the creative process. I love writing. When I get time off, I write. You can't schedule it, so I'm always writing."
