More on the touring production of 'War Horse'
The stage production of War Horse features two full-size puppet horses. Each is inhabitaed by two teams of pupeteers/actors who trade off nights/shows. And those teams appear - or do interviews - as a unit only.
For our print feature, we connected via conference call to one team that plays Joey, the title character, if you will. When we met Joey for our video piece, it was the other team. (Read and watch both at this link.)
Despite how real the engineers, puppet masters and puppeteers manage to make the animals in War Horse, the especially cool thing is how the production still allows for one of the basic tenets of trheater to shine through - that being the suspension of disbelief.
"It's not like anything I've ever done," Brian Burns, one of the team members we interviewed, told us.
