Friends, we are only a few days away from Cyber Monday. This is the busiest shopping season online as well as in person. That is why it is important to protect yourself from identity theft and fraud. Ninety percent of all fraud results from using your credit cards online. The computer hackers are busier than ever trying to get credit card or debit information. While I was at the Huntington Bank the other day the Bank Teller told me about a new service they are offering to protect their customers. What they are having you do is fill out a form with your information. Then they will create a separate checking account for you that is not connected to your regular checking or savings account. This account will be strictly for you to make secure online purchases. They advise only to put the amount of money in it to cover your order. That way if someone did get a hold of it you would be safe from them stealing your money or bank account numbers. Ask your bank if they are offering a similar service. I am definitely going to take advantage of it before I make any online purchases.Tip: Never respond to an e-mail requesting you to confirm, update or provide your account information. For now happy shopping!
