Friends, it is Spring and you know what that means. It is time for Spring cleaning. There is more to Spring cleaning than just washing windows. It is also time to purge all the clutter that has been accumulated over the year. My mother used to make us go through every closet and every drawer once a year to clear everything out that we no longer were wearing or had use for. I dreaded that day. She would supervise but my sisters and I had to do all the work. Now I do that with my son, except I am the one who ends up doing it all. To help get you started California Closets and I want to help get you organized. We will be at the April Sunny 95 Girls Night Out on Thursday, April 30th. It will be held at the Whole Foods Market in Dublin from 6-8 pm. California Closets will be giving away $1,000.00 towards a new closet. The kickoff of this 4 week campaign will take place at TheBag Lady booth. Stop by and sign up because Ladies, You Deserve It! To help you get started with your Spring cleaning I have some tips for you to get your closets organized.

* Clearing clutter is the first thing to do when trying to organize your home. One room at for a time survey your belongings and remove all the clutter that has piled up overtime.

* Start to get organized by tackling clothing closets and drawers first. Remove items from the closet and lay on the bed. Make five piles, keep, give away, throw away, store and sell. Have trash bags and boxes handy to pack the items in.

* When deciding what items to keep and what to toss here are some questions to ask yourself: When was the last time you used or wore this item? If it hasnít been in the past 12 months the rule of thumb is to pitch it.

*To create more closet space create double rods. It is inexpensive to do and gives you more room to hang shorter clothing on.

*Pitch all wire hangers. To keep your clothing in good condition and maintain its shape use wooden, padded or plastic hangers.

* Purchase a hook hanger at Bed Bath & Beyond to store belts on. This keeps them from ending up on the floor and out of sight when you need them.

*Store seasonal clothing in an under the bed box to maximize space. Do the same with seasonal footwear.

* Pick up decorative boxes at stores such as Big Lots or Joann Fabrics to store your jewelry in. You can get all size and shapes and keep it out of your drawers.

* Sort all towels and sheets in the linen closet to see if they are worth keeping. Keep three sets of sheets for every bed in your house. One on the bed, one in the laundry and one in the closet. Do the same with bath towels. For a guest room bed you only need two sets of sheets. Any time you get a new set of sheets retire the oldest set. Donate or store elsewhere to use at the pool or beach.

For now happy organizing!
