Friends, when paying for gasoline at the gas station we use a credit card in our family. It is a BP card so the only charges on it are for gas. If you too pay for gas with a card there is one pitfall you will want to avoid. It is amazingly easy to run up a major credit card bill at stations that have a coffee shop and convenient store attached.

Anymore many gas stations try to be a one stop shop. Fill up, buy a coffee, donut or breakfast sandwich and sometimes a morning paper. Some even have lunch specials now. If it is a convenient store you may be tempted to pick up a few groceries as well. It does not take long for a large bill to mount up. The prices at convenient stores are always more expensive than at a grocery chains. You want to avoid shopping at them. You may not realize how much you are spending until you get the monthly statement in the mail.

To minimize the impulse to purchase all of these things each time you stop to fill up pay outside and stay outside. One of the perks of putting it on a credit card is that you do not have to go in. If you don't go in you won't be tempted to spend extra money. The price of gas is high enough without adding to the bill. Make it a hard fast rule that you will charge only gas. You will feel much better the next time the statement arrives in the mail. For now happy shopping!
