Friends, it is best to be organized when going to the grocery store. Make a list and stick to it is a strategy to keep you within your weekly budget. There are exceptions to the rule though. Now, you have spent time combing through the weekly ads and familiarized with the specials. Also you have read my blog on the produce deals and meat and poultry deals for the week. Next you planned your menus and made up your grocery list.

When you get to the store you are on task to get what you need and exit. Then you run into a great deal that was not advertised in the circulars. It could be a roast reduced 40% off for a quick sale or bags of green peppers that are on the clearance shelf because they are soft and need to be used right away.

This is where flexibility to the list and weekly menu and shopping list come in. When faced with this decision I will delete a meal I have planned. I will replace it with one I can take advantage of the deals with. When I find green peppers I will change my menu to stuffed peppers or pepper steak. If a roast is marked down I will plan on serving it with potatoes and carrots. I then delete the groceries from my list for the dinners I modified from my list.

In order to save and make the most out of your grocery money be flexible and always look for unadvertised managers specials and deals. After all, a shopping list is not set in stone. The important thing is to keep within your grocery budget. For now happy shopping!
