Friends, a friend shared this saying with me. “I am not rich enough to buy cheap things.” This philosophy has been ingrained in me since childhood. My mother always stressed that it was better to have one quality item than several items of lesser quality. I have always found this to be true.

Now, this does not mean you have a license to run out and spend a lot of money on clothing or anything else. What I am saying is there is a difference between something of "cheap quality" and getting something of "quality cheap".

When I am shopping for new clothing I do not head to the discount stores. I visit the clearance racks at department stores and the off-price stores such as Steinmart, Filene’s Basement, Marshall’s and TJ Maxx and Burlington Coat Factory. Consignment shops are a great place to find quality items. You never know what gems you will find. The wholesale clubs often carry designer clothing for less as well. Sam’s Club has North Face ladies jackets for $120.00 right now.

I have found many bargains on the clearance rack at Macy’s, Kohl’s and JC Penney’s just to mention a few over the years. Combined with the coupons and saving passes you can find some fantastic deals at department stores. If it is a well made article of clothing it will hold up in the wash and give you years of wear, especially outerwear such as jackets and coats. For now, happy shopping!
