Friends, when heading to the store there is one item you should never leave behind other than your wallet; the shopping list. It is a tool to use to remind you what you do and do not need. Shopping with a list prevents impulse purchases which can wreck the grocery budget. More than half of all grocery purchases are unplanned.

Supermarkets are a place of high impulse shopping. The grocery industry markets their goods in a way to entice the customer to make unplanned purchases. So stick to the list! It is a cardinal rule of shopping. My husband is great at sticking to a list. He does not deviate from it at all. His mission is to get in and out as fast as possible.

Scan the weekly circulars and write down the staples you will need for the following week. If you find an uplanned special once in the store modify your list. For example, if you have a pot roast on your menu and find a pork roast for an incredible price forego buying the pot roast. Remember that when you stray from the list you are impulse buying! For now happy shopping!
