For this year’s Columbus Parent/ThisWeek Community News Teachers of the Year contest, we received almost 70 nominations from school districts all over central Ohio.

They were nominated by their peers, former colleagues and students. From those nominees, 15 finalists were chosen. Through a public vote, three winners were chosen – one each at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

The 2016 winners are:

Buffy Burroughs, Avondale Elementary School, Columbus City Schools

Julie Mizer, Hilliard Memorial Middle School, Hilliard City School District

Marcella Cua, Briggs High School, Columbus City Schools

Look for a story in the September issue of Columbus Parent, which comes out Aug. 24.
