D.J. Mendenhall threw two touchdown passes as visiting West Jefferson defeated Grandview Heights 28-0 on Friday in MSL-Cardinal Division football action.

Shane Cahill opened the scoring midway though the second quarter on a 2-yard run before Mendenhall connected with Cody Woodward on a 12-yard pass for a 14-0 halftime lead.

The margin quickly grew to 21-0 as Mendenhall connected with Eric Fisher on a 75-yard pass play in the third quarter. Fisher's 1-yard run capped the scoring in the fourth quarter.

The Bobcats, who fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the division, had an opportunity to take an early lead but were stopped on fourth-and-goal from the Roughriders' 1-yard line.

"Our kids played their best game of the season with intensity on both sides of the ball as well as we have all season," Grandview coach Jason Peters said. "Our kids played their butts off."

Grandview was led by Phil Elking, who caught four passes for 80 yards.

The Bobcats will look to get their first league victory Friday as they play host to Millersport. West Jefferson, which improved to 5-1 and 3-0, will play host to Fisher Catholic on Friday.
