Backstrom was a key member of a defense that allowed 7.4 points per game and had four shutouts as the Wildcats reached a Division I regional final and finished 11-2.
The 6-5, 216-pounder played coach Brian White's crucial Leo position - an assignment that requires an outside speed rusher - the past two seasons.
"Coach White putting me in that position makes me feel like he had confidence in me to get the job done," Backstrom said. "It's a very pivotal position on our defense. I was just proud to be able to play that position for him."
On offense, Backstrom helped provide blocking for a ground-oriented attack. A three-year letterwinner and two-year starter, Backstrom was first-team all-OCC-Central Division and all- district. He is undecided on a college.
