Kilbourne coach Vince Trombetti doubles up as defensive coordinator, and at halftime of the second game of last season he made a bold move.
"You're going to linebacker," Trombetti said to Sprague, who to that point was an end.
The 6-3, 255-pound Sprague stayed there and last June, he verbally committed to Cincinnati. Sprague averaged 10 tackles a game and was first-team all-OCC-Central and first-team all-district as the Wolves qualified for the Division I playoffs.
"He was not only a good physical presence, but brought an emotional calm," said Trombetti, whose team finished 7-4. "Off the field, when the kids looked at Danny, they saw him in the weight room all the time and he encouraged the kids and they really respected him."
