This is good news.

While the company has presented Nutty Nutcracker shows post-holiday in the past, this year's show is a larger-scale production across five shows in three days. (Nutty's have been one-time shows.) No big sets and no live orchestra, but big fun put together by artistic director Gerard Charles and company dancers (who have seen and danced their fair share of Nutcrackers and delight in twisting tradition every so often).

Conventions of The Nutcracker will be turned on their heads and surprises are apt to break into standard Nutcracker choreography at any moment. Tweaks, unusual costumes, audience participation and more are planned.

Company spokesperson Jennifer Sciantarelli cautions that the fun parody is intended for "mature audiences," calling Nutz a "PG-13 show."
