The Wildcats improved to 5-2 and New Albany dropped to 2-3.

The Eagles remained within striking distance in the first half led by Peter Kobelt, who scored 15 of his 17 points before halftime.

South led 26-24 with 1:40 remaining in the half before going on an 8-1 run to go up 34-25. The Wildcats then scored the first 16 points of thethird quarter and led 50-27 after three quarters. Kobelt's two free throws with 1:37 left in the quarter accounted for the Eagles' lone points.

Three-pointers by senior Jason Davis and junior Vincent Calo fueled the run.

"That third quarter was excellent," South coach Ed Calo said. "We extended pressure. We didn't foul. We moved our feet. We rotated over. We didn't give them clean looks. I felt we played really well in the third quarter."

The Wildcats led by as many as 30 points in the final quarter.

Davis led South with 20 points followed by Traevon Jackson with 10 and Tevin Favor with eight.

Chase Sutton had seven points for New Albany.

"We're getting better and we're still working on it," Calo said. "We realize we have a long way to go, but we have extended our effort. We're playing together. Our kids are growing. We're still learning what we're suppose to do, but we are getting better."
