The Eastmoor Academy girls basketball team defeated Canal Winchester 45-26 in the second round of the Division II district tournament Wednesday at Central Crossing.

Third-seeded Eastmoor improved to 16-4 and will play seventh-seeded Beechcroft in a district semifinal Tuesday at Pickerington North. Canal Winchester finished 3-19.

"I felt like we were in it. We had our chances and had our opportunities but couldn't convert," Canal Winchester coach Adam Twiss said. "We had some breakaways that didn't fall for us, but I've got to give credit to Eastmoor, they're a really good team."

Eastmoor held a 24-10 lead entering the third, but Canal Winchester cut the deficit to 10 halfway through the third quarter. After a timeout by Eastmoor, the Warriors went on a 10-0 run to put away the Indians for good.

The difference in the game was rebounds and turnovers. Eastmoor had 27 rebounds to Canal Winchester's 17 and forced the Indians into 28 turnovers. Still, Twiss remained positive.

"If you told me before the game they would get that many more rebounds and cause that many turnovers, I'd say they were going to score 70 points. Their ball pressure had an effect on us and we turned it over a lot," Twiss said. "So I felt defensively we played well. We had a lot of steals and limited their interior passes. It was a hard-fought loss."

DeAndra Paul scored nine points for Eastmoor and Chelsea Radcliff had seven points and 12 rebounds. Tykia Savage led Canal Winchester with 11 points.
