Courtney Haley scored 21 points, including 13 in the second half, as the ninth-seeded Watterson High School girls basketball team defeated Central Crossing 41-26 on Thursday at Dublin Jerome.

Watterson led 19-16 at halftime and then held the Comets to one field goal for nearly 10 minutes in the second half as Haley discovered her offense.

"In the second half, our defense picked up," said Haley, whose team improved to 20-2 and will play eighth-seeded Grove City in a district semifinal Wednesday at Olentangy Orange. "And that started my offensive rhythm."

Central Crossing's Olivia Davis scored with 5 minutes, 18 seconds to go in the third quarter to cut Watterson's lead to 23-18 and the Comets made one more basket before Chloe Richardson scored with 3:15 left in the game to make it 37-25. During that span Haley scored all of her second-half points.

Central Crossing, which finished the season 13-9, was 8-for-40 (20 percent) shooting.

"(The difference) was our lack of shooting and their shooting," Central Crossing coach Sarah Chevalier said. "I don't recall (Haley) ever missing."

Whitney Fullen led the Comets with 10 points.
