Two members of the Big Walnut High School wrestling team advanced out of the Division II district tournament held Friday and Saturday at Heath.

Ryan Nakama (130 pounds) and Matt Brown (215) qualified for the state tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday at Ohio State's Schottenstein Center. Nakama will be making his fourth state appearance and Brown will be making his first.

Nakama, who has yet to place at state, was district runner-up, going 3-1 and losing to DeSales' Jake Vaughan 4-2 in the championship match to drop to 41-4.

Brown went 5-1 at district and placed third, defeating Warsaw River View's David Rice 9-3 in the third-place match to improve to 27-11.

The top four finishers in each weight class qualified for state.

Also competing at district for the Golden Eagles were Braden Hale (125, 1-2), Corey Pace (119, 0-2), Travis Richey (135, 2-2), Zack White (112, 2-2) and Luke Worley (145, 4-2), who placed fifth. Curt Blase (160) qualified for district but was unable to compete.

Big Walnut scored 61 points at district to finish 11th behind champion Uhrichsville Claymont (157.5).
