West Chester Lakota West certainly knew how important MacKay was to Coffman's success. The Firebirds shut her out with a constant double team in a Division I regional final March 7 as they beat the Shamrocks 57-49.

No other opponent, however, could handle MacKay, a 5-8 point guard who has signed with Dayton. She averaged 12.2 points, 7.0 assists and 4.2 steals and was the OCC-Central Player of the Year, first-team all-district and third-team all-state.

MacKay leaves Coffman as the program's all-time leader in steals and assists.

"Being a point guard, Sam runs everything," coach Mary Ann Grimes said.

"Her amazing passing and ability to find the open man makes everyone else better."
