Grove City knew it needed to rely on Smith in its Division I district final March 14. He responded with 26 points, 20 rebounds and 10 blocks as the Greyhounds beat Dublin Coffman 81-52.

Grove City's up-tempo style helped it earn its first district title since 1999. It won its four district tournament games by an average of 27.5 points. Smith was the catalyst.

"Whenever we get the ball to (Smith) and he runs up and down the court, we do a good job of sharing the ball," coach Greg Waits said of Smith, who averaged 18.8 points and scored a season-high 32 points in a 76-45 win Jan. 27 at Groveport.

Grove City averaged 80.5 points, meaning Smith was responsible for 23.4 percent of the offense. Smith, a 6-foot-7 post player, was named Player of the Year in the OCC-Ohio and first-team all-district. He will play next season at Saint Louis.
