Volunteer registration has officially opened on the Picture This Web site www.PictureThis09.org. Earth Day 2009: Picture This, organized by Green Columbus, has the goal of enlisting more than 3,000 volunteers to make a difference at 60 work sites on April 18. the sites are run by local environmental organizations and groups. The online registration tool, designed by Grip Technology, allows potential volunteers to browse the available work sites and select the one that interests them most. It also caps the number that can sign up for each work site to avoid too many volunteers from flooding too few sites.
The site also has information about the Goodale Park celebration on April 19. The celebration component of Picture This will feature local bands, green living workshops and a town hall style meeting with elected politicians. Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman will also be delivering his annual Earth Day address. Other attractions at the park are a kids' tent, booths for environmental organizations and green businesses, Columbus Zoo animal shows and much more. The entire event at Goodale aims to send zero waste to the landfill by composting and recycling all waste generated.
The sponsoring organizations for Earth Day 2009: Picture This are: The CW of WHO-TV, CD101, Great Lakes Brewing, Earth Share of Ohio, Columbus Alive, COTA, Miriam Chon Designs, Fiji Water, Earth Day Network, Genuine Creative, Grip Technology, Jeni's Ice Cream, Limit Brands Foundation, and Weisenbach Recycled Products.
