The Golden Bears, who were ranked third in the final state poll, defeated No. 1 New Albany 3-2 on Wednesday in Central/Southeast District final to improve to 15-1.

"It was a tremendous win for us," said coach Amos Allison, whose team placed second after losing to Cincinnati St. Xavier 3-0 in a state final last year. "Our guys step it up in big matches."

Billy Weldon defeated John Buell 6-2, 6-2 at second singles, Ben Benalcazar defeated Oliver Sybert 6-3, 6-0 at third singles and the first-doubles team of Eric Vannatta and James Melvin defeated Sean Yun and Sam Romanoff 7-5, 6-2 for UA.
