Chelsea Brewer's double to right-center field in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Lakewood High School softball team past Frankfort Adena 4-2 in a Division III regional final Saturday at Lancaster.

"We need a run, and Chelsea just tattooed that double," coach Criss Nadolson said. "We just stayed together."

Caitlin Houk drove in the game's first two runs. Her infield dribbler scored Brayan Gault in the first inning, and Houk also had an RBI-single in the sixth to double the advantage. She drew a walk to lead off the ninth with the game tied at 2, and pinch-runner Meagan Kelley came around to score on Brewer's double. Brewer also scored on the play when the throw from the outfield went into Lakewood's dugout.

"I was just trying to have another good at-bat," Houk said of the walk. "Coach told us they had the bottom of their order coming up (in the home half of the ninth) and that we'd win if we could just get one in. We got two, so all the better."

The defending state-champion Lancers improved to 28-4 and will play Ready in a state semifinal at 10 a.m. Friday at Firestone Stadium in Akron. The Silver Knights also needed extra innings in a regional semifinal Saturday against West Liberty-Salem to advance.

Adena, which finished 25-4, tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kirsti Yates hit a home run off pitcher Alissa Birkhimer, who later allowed the tying run to score on a wild pitch. Birkhimer struck out four of the last eight batters she faced and finished with nine strikeouts. She gave up two hits.
