Two new faces will be joining Upper Arlington City Council in January.

Debbie Johnson and David DeCapua will join re-elected incumbents Frank Ciotola and Wade Steen on council in January.

With all 34 precincts reporting Tuesday night, Johnson received 6,226 votes, or 16.91 percent of the vote, while DeCapua garnered 6,193 votes (16.82 percent), according to unofficial results from the Franklin County Board of Elections. Ciotola was the top vote-getter with 6,644 votes (18.04 percent). Steen received 6,255 votes (16.99 percent).

DeCapua said he plans to bring a new perspective to council.

"Be prepared for new ideas that encourage intelligent discussion and result in significant savings," he said. "We have some serious deficits to address, which require us to move many paradigms. When the attacks come my direction (which they will) please listen to all sides. Change is never easy, but our world has forever changed and we need to treat our taxpayer dollars as such."

Johnson said she plans to bring a spirit of cooperation to council to address issues of importance.

"As I serve on council, the ideals I discussed throughout my campaign will be paramount: open and civil communication, responsible investments in our community, and greater partnership with residents and community organizations," she said.

Steen said he's looking forward to four more years on council and working with DeCapua and Johnson as well as current council members.

"The fact that both incumbents got re-elected says the residents are satisfied with what we've been doing," Steen said. "I'm excited to be returned. It's a sign that they're happy with what we're doing. I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing for the past four years. I'm looking forward to working with Debbie and David. They both have unique skills."

Ciotola could not be reached for comment.

In other local election news, Robert Arkin and Marjory Pizzuti were both reelected to the Upper Arlington City Schools Board of Education in an uncontested race. Both Arkin and Pizzuti, who currently serves as vice president of the board, will begin third terms in January.

Voters also approved a local liquor option allowing Sunday alcohol sales at the new Giant Eagle Market District store that is currently under construction on Northwest Boulevard. The option received 224 yes votes and 77 no votes, winning with 74.42 percent of the vote.
