Austin Dehart rushed for 105 yards and the Jonathan Alder defense forced four turnovers in a 24-0 win over Thomas Worthington.

"They're a great football team and they showed it on both sides of the ball tonight," Thomas coach Scott Gordon said. "When you make that many mistakes, you're not going to get away with it against that strong of a team."

Alder held Thomas to 35 yards rushing and linebacker Tyler Parker scored on an interception return in the fourth quarter to secure the program's first victory over a Division I opponent since 2006.

"It was a slow start for us in the first half, but we got back into it once our offense started rolling," Dehart said. "We finally settled into a rhythm and our offensive line really opened up the holes for us to run through."

Ahead 3-0 at the half, Dehart led a nine-play, 71-yard scoring drive to put the Pioneers up two scores.

On the next Thomas possession, safety Wesley Fauver intercepted quarterback John Chadwell's pass, setting up another Alder score.

Chadwell, making his first start, finished 10 for 21 with 106 yards and two interceptions.

"Our defense was awesome tonight," Alder coach Steve Coate said. "They were attacking everything inside and outside and really shut down everything they tried to do on the ground."

Thomas committed four turnovers and was penalized seven times for 35 yards.

Alder sophomore Alex Smith kicked a 51-yard field goal in the second quarter, a career long.
