In a matchup of defending City League champions Friday, the Marion-Franklin High School football team took a two-touchdown lead during the game's first three minutes and dominated host Brookhaven 27-2.

Running backs Paul Harris and Amir Robinson each had scoring runs, quarterback Correy Benson threw for a touchdown and ran for another and Justin Lindsey and Devante Taylor led the Red Devils defensively.

"Our nine seniors on defense dominated this game," Marion-Franklin coach Brian Haffele said. "This team might be the most athletic team I've had."

The Red Devils drove 70 yards on three plays for their first score, which came on a 32-yard run by Harris with 10 minutes, 56 seconds left in the opening quarter.

On Marion-Franklin's second drive, Benson entered the game for the first time and responded by burning the Bearcats for a 53-yard touchdown on his first play. He then hooked up with Jeremy McCoy for the two-point conversion and a 14-0 lead.

The Red Devils made it 20-0 with 8:44 to go before halftime when Benson hit McCoy for a 15-yard touchdown.

"We've been working real hard in the offseason," Robinson said. "Coach Haffele has been on me and the other running backs, Paul Harris and Chad Jones, a lot, because this is really important."

Robinson scored the final points on a 54-yard run with 8:56 left in the third quarter.

Taylor had a pair of sacks from his spot in the secondary and Lindsey led a front seven that controlled the line of scrimmage defensively.

"They switched up their looks and kind of gave us some things we weren't expecting," said Brookhaven quarterback Tajuan Green, who completed just four of 16 passes for 30 yards.
