Central improved to 1-0 andthe Quakersdropped to 1-1.
"This was a great experience," Central coach Jay Sharrett said. "We've never gone out of state for a game in the 20 years I've been here, and the kids did a great job of maintaining their focus after taking a long ride to Indiana on a charter bus and staying in a hotel."
Tyler "Speedy" Hammond was awarded a trophy as the Player of the Game after rushing for 105 yards on 12 carries and scoring two touchdowns.
Hammond scored on a 1-yard run to put Central ahead 17-0 with 2 minutes, 23 seconds left in the half. Then, midway through the third quarter, Hammond caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Grant Hammond to give the Tigers a 31-0 lead.
Running behind Central's large offensive line, Devone Penick rushed for 63 yards and two touchdownson nine carries, and Eilar Hardy ran for 49 yards and a score on five carries.
"This is the biggest offensive line we've ever had and they did a good job of blocking against a large Plainfield team," Sharrett said.
Central's defense held Plainfield to 78 rushing yards on 37 carries and 2-for-9 passing for 24 yards.
Meanwhile, the Tigers rushed for 293 yards on 44 carries and completed nine of 14 passes for 151 yards.
"They're a big, powerful running team and we had good gang-tackling to stop them," Sharrett said. "Whenever you record a shutout on the road, you know you're heading in the right direction."
