Falcons returned the field after missing last year when no fall sports were played in the South-Western City Schools.

In front of a capacity crowd, Ready's John Wright kicked his third field goal of the game from 25 yards with 1:29 remaining.

"What I was worried about was that we would leave too much time on the clock," Ready coach Larry Wolf said. "John Wright was special tonight. He's got a big-time leg. He has the ability to kick from 50-plus. That's quite a weapon."

"Everything is routine," Wright said about his thoughts leading up to his kick. "I practice it every day. It paid off. It's the best feeling I've ever had."

Franklin Heights had taken its first lead when Dayyon Hout connected with Emmanuel Jones for a 37-yard scoring pass off a fake punt with just under seven minutes remaining. The Falcons also had a chance to win in the closing moments, but a field-goal attempt by Cody Evans -- the team's 6-3, 320-pound center -- was blocked with under 20 seconds remaining.

"I hear a lot about how it used to be, but this is the team I know," said first-year Franklin Heights coach Rodney Hopkins, whose team rallied from an early 14-0 deficit. "These kids play hard and they're out there doing everything we're asking them to do. That's a good team over there. I know the tradition of that program, and for us to come out here and play them (the way we did) speaks volumes for what our kids did tonight."
