Kathleen's Cafe will have fresh soups, salads and sandwiches.
Kathleen's Cafe is expected to open in a few weeks at 1093 Bethel Road in the Bethel Kenny Center. Owner Kathleen Murchison said the emphasis will be on fresh soups, salads, sandwiches and baked goods. The laidback cafe also will offer freshly squeezed juices, a number of coffee drinks and teas.
For all you Bobcats: Beehive Bread Co. is donating all proceeds raised Sept. 12 to the Athens County Food Pantry. Beehive, to be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day, is located at 50 S. Liberty St., Powell. Owner Kip Frost said the bakery chose the Athens location because it's an all volunteer-run organization that doesn't get a lot of publicity that larger and administered food pantries get.
He urges customers to use cash that day so the bakery doesn't have to give up a percentage of donations to credit card fees.
Relocation plans for Brothers Drake Meadery are permanently on hold. The lease for new digs in the Short North fell through, said Woody Drake, a partner in the Far North Side business that produces the fermented-honey drink.
The intention was to move into a 9,000-square-foot facility near the corner of High Street and Fifth Avenue. That would have taken a rezoning by Columbus City Council.
A somewhat disappointed Drake said he will seek out other spots.
"It's not fun but whatever," he said. "Business is business. You live and learn."
