The Pickerington High School Central football team completed an undefeated regular season Friday with a 45-0 win over host Reynoldsburg in an OCC-Ohio Division contest.

The Tigers' defense held the Raiders to 61 total yards and forced two turnovers. Central, which entered the game first in the Division I, Region 3 computer ratings, improved to 9-0 overall and finished 7-0 in the OCC-Ohio. The Tigers already had clinched the league title outright.

Reynoldsburg finished 3-7 and 1-6.

Running back Tyler "Speedy" Hammond led the Tigers with 15 carries for 169 yards with touchdown runs of 8 and 51 yards.

The Central offense, which amassed 340 yards rushing, enjoyed favorable field position most of the game, as five of its drives started in Raiders territory.

Reynoldsburg was able to slow the Tigers down early in the game and trailed 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. But Central turned that around quickly with 21 points in the second quarter and 14 more in the third quarter.

Central coach Jay Sharrett said his team entered the game knowing it could be in for a struggle.

"We had to wrestle the game away from them in the first half, only up 3-0 after the first quarter," Sharrett said. "We were able to get some quick field position scores and were able to get a nice lead."

Jake Raymond rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers and Devone Penick ran for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Defensive back Tamani Carter intercepted Reynoldsburg quarterback J.C. Gibson in the third quarter and returned the ball 20 yards for another score.

Reynoldsburg finished with just 14 yards passing and carried 35 times for only 47 yards.

"Our guys came prepared to play," Sharrett said. "Reynoldsburg is a good 'north-south' team and plays what we call 'shoulder pad football,' and we like that. We were glad to hold their yards down and get another shutout tonight."

Central has allowed just 39 points in nine games this season and has five shutouts.

The leading rusher for Reynoldsburg was Talion Grace, who carried seven times for 29 yards. Stanley Peterson, the Raiders' leading rusher, was held in check, carrying the ball seven times for minus-6 yards.
