Mill Run to welcome neighborhood bakery in spring
Roy Auddino’s future enterprise takes its cue from his family’s original neighborhood bakery.
His next store, Auddino’s Community Bakery, will offer high-end coffees, premium gelati and homemade pastries and baked goods in the old Fuddruckers location in Mill Run.
A late April opening date is planned.
Auddino wants his business to convey the same homey appeal as the Linden Community Bakery, founded in 1967 by his parents, Mike and Rosa Auddino, at Hudson Street and Cleveland Avenue in the Northland area.
“It is completely a neighborhood bakery. We’re retro. We’re going back to the 1960s and ’70s, when there was a bakery on every corner,” said Auddino, a partner in Auddino’s Italian Bakery, 1490 Clara Ave. at East 11th Avenue and I-71.
Customers will be able to sup on European-style pastries, tiramisu, cannoli, cassata cake, German Black Forest cake and custom Danish, plus a full line of housemade gelati.
The centerpiece of the space will be a coffee lounge, where high-end imported cappuccino and espresso, and custom-roasted coffee from local sources will be served.
The 5,700-square-foot space will seat 158 people. Savory menu items will include lighter fare, such as Panini sandwiches, wraps, soups and salads.
Mike and Rosa Auddino, with the help of Rosa’s brother, Tony Cordi, transitioned their bakery into a wholesale operation, which has been at its current location since 1992. Although it has a small retail store, there is little walk-in business at the out-of-the-way location, Roy Auddino said.
“Now I see a need to reach out to these customers and get into their neighborhoods,” he said.
