As a community banker, Tiney M. McComb was interested in far more than his customers' money.

He always wanted to know more about them, their dreams and their goals and how the bank could help, said his son, G. Scott McComb, president and CEO of Gahanna-based Heartland Bank, which his father founded in 1988.

Tiney McComb, 69, died Saturday at his home in New Albany. His son said his father had cancer.

"The thing that made my father a good banker was the fact that people didn't just come to get money," Scott McComb said.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Resurrection in New Albany.
