Sauvignon blanc has a good snap of acidity

One of the better known wineries in New Zealand is Giesen, a family winery that hails from Marlborough, which is on the northeast corner of the southern island.

Here the maritime influences keep the vineyards cool at night, but it does get a bit warm during the day, much like Napa’s Carneros region.

Giesen makes sauvignon blanc quite well, and the bottling for the 2011 release is a head turner. Unoaked, fresh and lively, this fragrant white offers aromas of lime, young apples and lemon zest, with undertones of fresh cuts grass.

The mouth impression shows a nice snap of acidity, with a long, cool aftertaste that is simply refreshing. To be sure, this is a drinker’s wine as it need not be laid down for any length of time. The price of around $12 adds to the wine’s attraction. If your place does not carry it, have the manager contact Vintage Wine in Columbus.
