AIDS Walk Central Ohio Created in honor of OSU medical faculty member Dr. Robert J. Fass, this memorial walk supports HIV and AIDS awareness in Franklin County. The 2012 5K walk/run is Saturday, Oct. 6, and money raised goes to various area charities including Camp Sunrise, The Ohio AIDS Coalition and the Columbus AIDS Task Force. There is no registration fee for kids 12 and under, and adult registration begins at $20. Funds raised support the 26 million Americans with kidney disease. The Columbus event begins at 10 a.m., and participants donate to the cause by setting a fundraising goal. Each year, the 5K walk raises money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, including Nationwide Children's Hospital. Join the community at Livingston Park beginning at 8:30 a.m. Along with the walk there will be children's activities, games and more. Online registration is $20 for adults (plus another $10 donation to Children's Hospital) and free for kids 12 and under. Taking place the day before the marathon (Saturday, Oct. 20), the circus-themed event has different distances based on age group for participants ages 1 to 14 (don't worry, parents, the one-year-olds are only crawling 60 yards!).
