The Columbus Celtic Dancers is sponsoring an Irish Ceili Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Trinity School, 1420 Grandview Ave.

The event is a fundraiser for the Ann Richens Scholarship Fund at the Columbus Foundation and features music by the General Guinness Band and dance instruction by Allanda O'Neill of the Richens/Timm Academy of Irish Dance.

An Irish Ceili Dance is similar to an American square dance – dancers are organized in groups and follow the movements provided by a "caller." Even complete beginners can participate. Dancers will learn various traditional group dances such as "The Siege of Ennis," "The Walls of Limerick" and others.

The Columbus Celtic Dancers is group of Irish step dancers which grew out of a dance class taught by Ann Richens, founder of the Richens/Timm. Richens died in 2011 but her legacy, and her dance academy, continue. The Ann Richens Scholarship Fund of The Columbus Foundation provides financial support for youth studying Irish dance in central Ohio.

Tickets are $10 each and are available in advance or at the door. For tickets call 614-205-0810 or email tmaloneyhouston@gmail.com.
