After five years as a favorite at the Saturday morning farmers market, Sassafras Bakery will make downtown Worthington its permanent home.
Owner A.J. Perry said she plans to open shop in three or four weeks at 657 High St., formerly Blue Frost Cup-cakes.
"I am excited to serve Worthington and to become part of the community," Perry said.
The shop will serve many of the same items as Sassafras has sold at the Old Worthington Farmers Market.
That includes cookies, bars and brownies, pies, savories, muffins, rolls, scones and pot pies.
Added to the menu will be Cafe Brioso and Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. The latter could top a slice of pie in the bakery or be sold as pints for carry-out. Frozen Sassafras pie crusts also will be available.
Seating for 15 will be available inside, with sidewalk seating provided during the farmers market.
Hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Eventually, Sassafras might open on Sundays for brunch, Perry said.
Each item will continue to be handcrafted and made from fine ingredients, many grown locally, she said.
Perry currently operates out of a licensed kitchen in her Gahanna home but will stop working there when the Worthington site opens.
Besides the farmers market, she sells private orders and sells at Hills Market, Bexley Coffee Shop, Due Amici restaurant and Harvest Moon.
