Young's Dairy offers enough entertainment to last the whole afternoon.

In Yellow Springs, Ohio, families with kids of all ages will find themselves immersed in good food, good fun and scrumptious ice cream that is certainly worth the trip from Columbus.

Young's Dairy is only a 45-minute drive from Columbus and offers enough entertainment to last the whole afternoon, if not the whole day.

The family-owned dairy offers tractors to climb on, a 30-foot slide, putt-putt golf, batting cages, driving ranges and even a petting zoo - a favorite with kids - where you can feed the goats, pet a calf or watch the cows get milked.

At lunchtime, head to the dairy store to snag a burger or try Young's Dairy's popular fried-cheese curds if you want something quick. Or, if a home cooked meal is what you're jonesing for, the Golden Jersey Inn, a full-service restaurant with home-style country cooking and offerings like meatloaf and chicken and dumplings, is also an option on site.

But the No. 1 reason families flock to Young's Dairy is the ice cream. Made right on the farm from the milk of Jersey cows that are milked in the barn twice daily, Young's sells more than 75,000 gallons of ice cream every year in 100 or more flavors like butter pecan and banana cookie crunch. The chocolate "P-nut" butter flavor is to die for.

Guests can find approximately 37 flavors on the menu at any given time. These include seasonal flavors and a flavor of the week, which is an offering that will get you two dips for the price of one.

What makes Young's ice cream so good? Besides the fact that the whole process, from cow-milking to cone-dipping, takes place right there on the farm, all of the frozen desserts are made in small batches with quality ingredients to produce high-quality ice cream.

While you dig into your ice cream, relax at the picnic tables on the porch or browse through the gift shop in the Dairy store. The kids will get a kick out of the farm-themed gifts and there is plenty to interest parents, too.

On your way out, don't forget to pick up some of Young's award-winning farmstead cheese, including a delightful applewood-smoked cheddar.

Young's Dairy also offers events for families year round, including an Easter egg hunt, car shows and an annual cheese festival. In the fall, hop on a wagon ride, navigate a corn maze or pick your own pumpkin. Young's also offers cut-your-own Christmas trees in November and December.
