Metro Parks

The following is a list of Columbus and Franklin County Metropolitan Park District programs for this week.


Battelle-Darby Creek Metro Park

1775 Darby Creek Drive, Galloway

* Mammals of Ohio Display, 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday at the Nature Center. See skins, scat, skulls and skeletons of past and present mammals.

* Fireflies, 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Indian Ridge bulletin board. Take a half-mile hike and use lights to call in fireflies.

* Preschoolers: Creeking, 9:30 or 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ranger Station. Wade in the creek and discover what critters live there.


Blacklick Woods Metro Park

6975 E. Livingston Ave., Reynoldsburg

* Morning Coffee and Wildlife Watch, 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. View wildlife through the Nature Center windows and enjoy a cup of coffee.

* Moth Madness Display, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Nature Center. Discover the beauty and diversity of Ohio moths.

* Nature Kids: Creeking, 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Monday at the Nature Center. Take a two-mile round-trip walk to explore Blacklick Creek with nets and buckets. For ages 6-12.

* Preschoolers: Dance of the Honeybees,10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Beech Maple Lodge. Act out a day in the life of a honeybee, then enjoy a taste of Ohio honey.


Blendon Woods Metro Park

4265 state Route 161 E., Westerville

* Fireflies, 9 p.m. Saturday at the Cherry Ridge Program Area. Learn about fireflies and how to attract them to your hand.

* Nature Station Games, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Nature Station. Join the naturalists for fun and games in the picnic areas.

* Metro Five-0: Creeking, 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Nature Center. Take a walk in the creek and discover the critters that live there. For ages 50 and older.


Glacier Ridge Metro Park

9801 Hyland Croy Road, Plain City

* Geocache Adventure, 2 p.m. Sunday at the bulletin board at the main entrance picnic area. Try out geocaching. Some units available, or bring your own.


Highbanks Metro Park

9466 U.S. 23 N., Lewis Center

* Rocking Reptiles, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Nature Center. See turtles and snakes and learn about their lives.


Inniswood Metro Gardens

940 Hempstead Road, Westerville

* Sunny Sundays, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Herb Garden. Members of the Herb Society of America Central Ohio Unit will be available to answer visitors' questions.

* Water, Water, Everywhere, 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Education Pavilion. Learn about water's importance and how to conserve it. For ages 8 and younger (accompanied by an adult).

* Parsley, Peas and Popcorn Shoots, 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Innis House. The Herb Society of America Central Ohio Unit's quarterly meeting is open to the public. Learn how to grow your own micro-greens.


Pickerington Ponds Metro Park

7680 Wright Road, Canal Winchester

* Preschoolers: Bats, 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Glacier Knoll Picnic Area. Learn about bats through stories and activities.


Scioto Audubon Metro Park

400 W. Whittier St., Columbus

* Fun to the Midnight Hour, 9 p.m. to midnight Friday. The climbing wall and dog park will remain open, as well as the fishing dock on the Scioto River.


Slate Run Metro Park

1375 state Route 674 N., Canal Winchester

* Butterflies Flying By, 2 p.m. Sunday at the Buzzard's Roost Picnic Area. Try to catch butterflies flying around the prairie. Nets provided.


Slate Run Living Historical Farm

1375 state Route 674 N., Canal Winchester

* Cool Drinks for a Hot Day, 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday Taste teas, switchel, root beer and other refreshing 19th-century beverages.


Three Creeks Park

3860 Bixby Road, Groveport

* Summer Scenes, 2 p.m. Sunday at the Confluence Trails bulletin board. Take a tram ride through fields and forests.


Walnut Woods Metro Park

6723 Lithopolis Road, Groveport

* Hike Through the Pines, 7 p.m. Saturday at the Tall Pines Area, 6833 Richardson Road. Take a two-mile walk through the shaded avenues of pine trees.
