Metro Parks

The following is a list of Columbus and Franklin County Metropolitan Park District programs for this week.

 

Battelle-Darby Creek Metro Park

1775 Darby Creek Drive, Galloway

* Preschoolers: Damsels and Dragons, 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. Friday at the Nature Center. Explore the lives of dragonflies and damselflies with a story, song and craft.

* Late Night Fishing at Pleasant Valley, Saturday at the Pleasant Valley bulletin board, 9137 state Route 62. The area will be open until midnight for fishing, hiking, stargazing and pet hikes.

 

Blendon Woods Metro Park

4265 state Route 161 E., Westerville

* Caterpillar Crawl, 10 a.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. Search the milkweed patches for monarch caterpillars and learn how they mature into butterflies.

* Butterfly Tagging, noon Saturday at the Nature Center. Learn to capture and tag monarchs for a research study that tracks them to their Mexican wintering grounds.

 

Inniswood Metro Gardens

940 Hempstead Road, Westerville

* Metro Five-0: Attracting Pollinators, 11 a.m. Friday at the Gardens entrance. Search for pollinators and learn how to attract them to your own garden. For ages 50 and older.

* Sunny Sundays, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Herb Garden. Members of the Herb Society of America Central Ohio Unit will be available to answer visitors' questions.

 

Prairie Oaks Metro Park

3225 Plain City-Georgesville Road, West Jefferson

* Archery, 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday at Sycamore Plains Trail, 2009 Amity Road. Learn to use a simple compound bow and shoot arrows at targets. For ages 8 and older.

* Late Night Fishing, 9 p.m. Saturday at Darby Bend Lakes, 2755 Amity Road, and Beaver Lake. Fish the lakes until midnight.

* Canoe the Lakes, 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at Darby Bend Lakes, 2755 Amity Road. Paddle a canoe around the lakes. Children must fit into a life jacket to ride.

 

Scioto Audubon Metro Park

400 W. Whittier St., Columbus

* Late Nights at Scioto Audubon, 9 a.m. to midnight Friday at the Central Activities Area. The climbing wall and dog park will remain open, as well as the fishing dock on the Scioto River.

 

Sharon Woods Metro Park

6911 Cleveland Ave., Westerville

* Children's Fishing, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Schrock Lake west bulletin board. Drop a line in the lake and try to catch a fish.

 

Slate Run Metro Park

1375 state Route 674 N., Canal Winchester

* Fall Scavenger Hunt, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Buzzard's Roost Picnic Area. Pick up a scavenger hunt list and search for nature items around the picnic area. Receive a prize if you finish.

 

Slate Run Living Historical Farm

1375 state Route 674 N., Canal Winchester

* All in a Day's Work, 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday and Monday. See a display about 19th-century occupations and the history of Labor Day.

 

Three Creeks Park

3860 Bixby Road, Groveport

* Nature By Tram, 1 or 2:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Confluence Trails bulletin board. Take a tram ride and see flowers, birds and the first signs of fall.

* Metro Five-0: Tram Trek, 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Confluence Trails bulletin board. Enjoy a ride on the tram and learn about the park.

 

Walnut Woods Metro Park

6723 Lithopolis Road, Groveport

* Metro Five-0: Nature Technology, 11 a.m. Friday at the Buckeye Area, 6716 Litho-polis Road. Identify birds, mammals, plants and other natural phenomena using iPods as electronic fields guides. Equipment provided. For ages 50 and older.
