Past and current members of the Canal Winchester Local School District board of education met Friday, July 27, behind closed doors to discuss how to proceed with the search for a new superintendent of schools.
According to Board President Debra Waites, the current board invited past members who were involved in the hiring of Kimberley Miller-Smith as superintendent six years ago.
July 9, Miller-Smith announced she would be retiring at the end of the year.
Of the current board members, Waites is the only one who has had previous experience in picking the school chief.
"We have invited the board members that were involved in the selection of Kim Miller-Smith to join us in executive session to offer their insight for the newer board members," Waites said.
Past board members attending the meeting included David Brobst, John Kantner, Stan Smith and Chuck Miller.
At the meeting, the board discussed possibly using the services of the Ohio School Board Association in the search process as well as other options.
The board took no action, but was expected to discuss the search at its next board meeting scheduled for Monday, Aug. 20.
The board hopes to have a new superintendent in place by the middle of December so Miller-Smith can help with the transition before she steps down.
