• Pioneer Arcade, 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Nature Center. Test your puzzle and game skills with toys from an earlier time.

• Metro Five-0: Off-Trail Birding, 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Ash Grove Picnic Area. Get a start on birding for the new year on this three-mile on- and off-trail hike. For ages 50 and older.

• Delightful Ducks, 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. Learn to identify ducks and search for them at Thoreau Lake.

• Pelts & Bones Display, noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Nature Center. Learn about Ohio's native mammals.

• Launch Your Bird List, 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Nature Center. Get your new year bird list off to a quick start on this 1.5-mile hike. Hot drinks provided.

• Christmas Bird Count, 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Maintenance Shop. Search for birds on- and off-trail as part of the National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count. Tally results while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate.

• Metro Five-0: Hoot, 6 p.m. Friday at the Nature Center. Use recordings to try and call in three species of owl for a closer look. For ages 50 and older.

Inniswood Metro Gardens

• Artist of the Month, view the art work of members of the Central Ohio Watercolor Society throughout December. Closed Mondays.

Prairie Oaks Metro Park

3225 Plain City-Georgesville Road,West Jefferson

• Just for Kids: Animal Signs, 11 a.m. Monday at the Prairie View Picnic Area. Take a rugged off-trail hike through forest and fields and look for scat, tracks and other signs that animals leave behind.

Sharon Woods Metro Park

• Preschoolers Plus: Open House Party, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Hollow Lodge, 1069 W. Main St., Westerville. Celebrate the end of the year with crafts, games and other activities. For ages 3-7.

Slate RunLiving Historical Farm

1375 state Route 674 N., Canal Winchester

• Smoked, Salted, Pickled and Preserved, 1 to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Learn how fruits, vegetables and meats were preserved before artificial refrigeration. The smokehouse will be operating.
